Sustainability ~ ''the avoidance of the depletion of natural resources in order to maintain an ecological balance''

My aim when starting my business was to create a range of unique and sustainable homewares & accessories, handmade in my studio in Fife, Scotland

I have been passionate about the environment for a long time and as a family we do what we can to reduce, reuse and recycle. When I started my business, I always wanted sustainability to be a big part of it, which means making informed choices about what materials I source and what my creative process is. I know I have a long way to go, and will always be learning but here are some things I already do.....

~ The Linen fabrics I use for printing are woven locally in Fife

~ I am currently using lining fabrics which I have purchased over the years but am moving over to a cotton fabric from a UK supplier, produced in an Oekotex certified factory. I also use recycled Sari Silk for some items

~ The inks I use for printing are water based and environmentally friendly, 100% solvent free and contain no toxic chemicals. I am currently replacing these with inks approved by the Soil Association UK. The inks are also Vegan, have not been tested on animals and contain no animal products

~ I print directly onto the fabric, printing only what I need to minimise waste

~ The use of water during my printing process and subsequent cleaning up is kept to a minimum

~ All fabric off cuts are saved for future projects

~ The quality cushion pads I use are made in the UK

~ I source locally woven fabric and supplies wherever possible, which also helps support other UK based businesses

~ All packaging is plastic free and reusable or recyclable and sourced from UK based businesses

~ Everything I make is an original design with a low environmental impact and is handmade to last

Linen

Linen is made from the flax plant, much of it grown in North West Europe

Flax can be grown on rough terrain unsuitable for food production

It requires no irrigation during growth and little chemical treatment

All parts of the plant are used therefore there is no wastage

Linen in 100% biodegradable and recyclable

Linen is Sustainable and Eco Friendly
